In this essay I will explain the causes of long-term hunger and evaluate strategies adopted to cope with food shortages. A long term hunger is a chronic long term nutrition which causes significant health problems. There are many malnutrition-related deaths, and it also causes illness, like in Sudan, where in this country have long term hunger. Long term hunger is also is caused by malnutrition which is a serious health destruction that results from inadequate nutrient intake.
Malnutrition may result from a lack of food, a chronic shortage of key nutrients, or impaired absorption and metabolism associated with chronic conditions or diseases Sudan has various cases that link to malnutrition, and it was described as the “world’s greatest humanitarian crisis”, It is not the case that countries with famines are necessarily short of valuable resources. Sudan has large oil and gas reserves, but the civil war has prevented their exploitation. British colony has over taken Sudan in 1886 until 1956.
In 1970 the food production has increased, so world bank insisted that Sudan should return to the cotton production, which by then Sudan fell in a heavily into debt. This includes social where it is overpopulated and its fertility rate is 5, the population has caused desertification in the environmental site in Sudan, but not only desertification as well has caused a drought during 4 years in a low rainfall. Therefore it is the government fault, that they do not supply crops for the civilization.
USA has offered GM crops but Sudan’s government has not accepted because they do not trust USA crops and the chemicals that contains in it. These shortages can be caused due to droughts, pests and insufficient crops. The most effective strategies are that there is not enough food for everyone. In conclusion, I do not believe that the famines in Africa are inevitable Malthusian population culls. In my opinion they are a combination of physical factors, civil war, and corruption and selfish attitudes in the governments of both LEDC’s and MEDC’s.
